The house archive records every resident who ever stayed a night, then quietly revises those numbers whenever the building disagrees. Public copies remove the arguments. Internal copies keep them in the margins.
Twelve named occupants. Two scratched out. One replacement added in a different ink thirty years later.
Three families listed in a room that fits one bed. The clerk wrote "structure objected."
An @ mark appears in place of a surname. No one admits to using it.
